There is a spray bottle for your scalp and a capsule you take twice daily. Each bottle (for spray and capsule) contains a 1-month supply. However, there is a caveat: the Provillus provider suggests that you also address secondary issues that cause hair loss like stress or poor diet if you want Provillus to work as it should. This brand isn't promising a miracle cure, and you do have to make sure to take care of yourself outside of this hair loss choice.

The prices for Provillus are hard to find. On some sites, you have to put in your name, email, address, and phone number just to see the cost for men's Provillus. It seemed odd to protect the men's hair loss product behind a sign-up. On the same site, we didn't have the same struggle for the women's version. When we registered for the BuyHealth site to get past the block, we found men's prices ranged from $47.95 for one package to $149.85 for 5 packages. Women's Provillus costs from $39.95 for one package to $119.85 for 6 packages.

The retailer suggested by Provillus' manufacturer is BuyHealth. This site offers both men's and women's Provillus with deals on packages, so you pay less per bottle the more you buy. It was hard to find Provillus on third-party retailers, so you may want to stick with BuyHealth to get your Provillus. Regrettably, this was also the site where we struggled to find details about the men's Provillius, so you will have to sign up to buy if you're one of the gents.

Guarantees will depend on where you buy, but Provillus has a money-back guarantee policy that offers you a 100% refund with no expectations. There isn't a listed deadline on the Provillus website; however, on its suggested retailer, BuyHealth, you can try out Provillus risk-free for 90 days before returning the products.

No buzz for Provillus

Regrettably, there's almost no information about how effective this hair loss option is for customers. Provillus has an "NR” rating and no reviews on the Better Business Bureau. Further, we couldn't find any third-party reviews on retailers outside of BuyHealth. Considering the total lack of feedback, we're wary of suggesting this hair loss product over others that have more feedback (good and bad).

Too many questions to be trustworthy

We're not usually going to judge a site by its cover, but the strange differences between buying men's and women's Provillus, the general design of the site, and the lack of reviews for the product leave us a little wary about how legit Provillus is. Propecia (or finasteride) was originally developed by the company Merck in 1997.

As one of the few products that is FDA-approved on our list, Propecia stands out from the pack. One bottle of Propecia includes a 1-month supply. You take one capsule per day for 30 days, which makes it a low-commitment medication for hair loss. However, it does require a few extra hoops to jump through to get your medication. You will need to get a doctor's approval to start Propecia, and you'll be unable to buy it without a written prescription.

Prices as low as $8.95 per bottle

Depending on where you buy your Propecia, the prices may fluctuate. We found prices as low as $8.95 for a home delivery of a 1-month dose. Shipping was free there too, so you can easily score your Propecia at a lower cost than most hair loss options in our review. If you want to get your Propecia from a local pharmacy, the price will be around $19.96. Regardless of the method, you will need to prove you have a prescription to order Propecia.

Concerning reports of side effects

While this is a low-cost option, it may not be ideal for you. Reviews for Propecia are few and far between. Further, the original manufacturer of the medication, Merck, has an "NR” rating from the Better Business Bureau. The few third-party reviews we could find showed a 4.7 out of 10 score. Customers complain about a large number of side effects. Men find that they have trouble with intimacy while taking the prescription (and afterward). The list of potential issues mentioned in patient reviews includes erectile dysfunction, reduced or no libido, pressure/headache, and more. Some patients complained about developing other problems like hypothyroidism after using Propecia. Given that this is a medication for men only, it doesn't appear to be handling men very well. Yikes!

Not worth the negative effects

While this product comes at a considerably lower cost than many hair loss products, Propecia doesn't sound safe for most patients.
